Craig Mckune - South Africa

Lonmin’s Bermudan deals

Craig spent several months looking into Lonmin, the mining company that owns the Marikana mine where 34 striking miners were killed in 2012.

Craig wrote a series of articles on the company’s deals with Bermuda and the questionable involvement with Cyrl Ramaphosa who later became a leading South African Politician.

The question underlying these investigations, which is currently being asked by the commission looking into the massacre, is whether the deaths could have been averted if Lonmin had been paying their workers rather than taking their money offshore.
